Would you like to find out if TLM can improve your mental golf game? I'd be happy to talk with you. Just call 415-506-4472 or and ask for Morty. Are You Just One Tip Away From A Better Golf Game?I don't think so. You see golf is a physical game. It is NOT a mental game, despite the widespread myth that it is. Most golfers have made golf a mental game … and that's the problem. They've turned a physical activity into a mental activity. Let me explain. You make golf into a mental game because you let your mind interfere with the physical processes of keeping your head down, holding the clubs, swinging the clubs, etc… That's why more tips don't help. In fact they often confuse. Neuroscience studies have shown that when learning a new physical skill we do need to think about what we are doing and so we use a specialized part of the cerebral cortex (the thinking brain) to figure things out. However, once a new skill is learned we rely on the cerebellum to actually use it. (For further explanation, please click here.) At this point increasing activity in the cortex actually interferes with performance. In other words—once you learn a new skill, thinking about what you are doing gets in your way. The biggest problem for most golfers is that their muscles tighten up. This tightness can be major or minor but the result is the same—the tightness interferes with the physical actions you've practiced so hard to learn. And what causes this muscle tightness? Thinking. And unfortunately it only takes a small blip on your mental radar screen to cause muscle tension. You might be like many golfers who believe negative thoughts are the real problem. So the solution is to think positive. Unfortunately this is wrong. You don't want “better” thoughts, you want NO thoughts.
"If I have two swing thoughts, I have no chance at all. If I have one, maybe I'll have a good shot. If I have none, then I can play like Bobby Jones." So then how do you stop the thinking that gets in your way? That's where The Lefkoe Method, a set of techniques I developed over 20 years ago can help. It helps you to eliminate the sources of any thoughts you have while you play—positive or negative—so that you can play with a quiet mind and let your body hit the ball with no interference from your conscious mind.

How We Help You Lower Your HandicapWhen you first speak with me I will dialogue with you to find out exactly how your mind is interfering with your golf game. I call this a mental pattern. Here's how I help you find the mental pattern. I'll ask you what part of your game is not working and other questions to help you find out how your mind is contributing to your golf problem. If you are having trouble putting, for example, we might discover that you have the belief, “I'm lousy at putting.” When you discover your belief it will seem like a fact to you, but it's not. You may not have putted well in the past. That's a fact. But the idea that you will never putt well in the future is a belief that can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. You may find that certain things make you anxious, for example, what others think of how you are playing, missing an “easy” shot, or approaching the green. This anxiety may cause you to play poorly in these situations. However, the biggest problem for most golfers is the “little voice” that constantly judges and criticizes. It says: “How could you be so stupid?” Second, I help you to find beliefs that are causing your mental patterns. When you find the beliefs you'll be able to see exactly how they are impacting your game. You might say to yourself, “Of course I would worry about my swing with that belief.” For example, if every time you play well you feel that you can't sustain it, that it's a fluke, you might believe "If I'm playing well, it probably won't last," which causes you to lose your focus and may even cause you to get nervous, making it harder to control your swing. Third, I use our belief elimination process to help you remove the beliefs from your mind. I know that this is hard to believe but our client success stories show that this truly works. Fourth, you have to actually get on the course and play to see if you have gotten rid of every aspect of the mental pattern you were working on. Fifth, we help you evaluate your performance on the golf course to see if the mental pattern, and its impact on your golf game, is gone. For example if we were working with your tendency to doubt yourself when you are playing at your best, as in the example above, we would simply ask if you continued to feel this way in those situations. If the tendency is less frequent or less intense than it was before, we know that we have only handled part of the pattern and we return to step one of The Lefkoe Method. If the tendency is totally gone, we move on to another behavior you want to change or another aspect of the “little voice” conversation. Here's how the five steps worked for one of my recent clients. In our first session my client said, “I usually putt short. I'm afraid of hitting the ball too hard on the putt and going past the hole. My 'little voice' is constantly worried about what others in my foursome will think if I hit the ball past the cup.” I asked him what he believed that could explain both his behavior and what his “little voice” was telling him. At first he had no idea, but after a few directed questions he found the answer. "If I hit the ball past the cup it means I'm klutzy and uncoordinated." Also, "If I don't play well I'll be rejected and if I play too well I'll be rejected." Using The Lefkoe Method he eliminated these beliefs in less than 30 minutes. A week later he called for his session. “How is your putting game?” I asked him. “Well, I only played one round of golf this past week and my number of putts during the round were what I usually do. But I was hitting the ball solidly and was not worried about how I look or what people will think.” A couple of weeks later he sent me an email right after coming off the course: “I am completely certain that your work has made an appreciable difference in my game.... especially in the putting arena. I am playing with more confidence and less chatter and emotionality. “
No More Anxiety When You PlaySports psychologists have known for years that even small levels of anxiety inhibit muscle control, reducing your ability to control your swing. The Lefkoe Method uses powerful emotional processes to help you get rid of the fear of screwing up, looking stupid and being judged that hinder your golf performance. When these fears are gone you will have better control of your swing, be able to focus on getting the ball into the hole and be able to relax, causing your scores to fall.

Relaxation Replaces Anger And FrustrationIf you are still thinking about the last shot, especially if you are angry about it, your mind cannot possibly be fully focused on the current one. When you have gotten rid of the triggers for your anger on the course with The Lefkoe Method you will be able to relax completely after a "bad" shot and focus calmly on the next one. Not only will you enjoy the game more because you've gotten rid of some negative feelings but your scores will continue to get lower as you play more and more at your very best.
End Habitual Hooks And Slices
We've found the true cause of "hooks" and "slices" for people
who've learned how to swing well in practice--and it's not bad
technique or poor concentration.
Stop The Yips ColdWhat causes the yips?Dr. Valiante, noted sports psychologist, provides an answer Tension and fear influence the golf swing [by causing] golfers [to] change their rate of acceleration on the downswing. … On the full swing we call this trying to 'steer' the ball or 'holding on' too long. … When golfers feel fear over a putt, deceleration manifests itself in the form of a 'jabbed' putt along with a slight flinch of the eyes and slight movement of the head (which influences direction and line). In other words, anxiety causes golfers to slow down as they swing, flinch their eyes and move their head at the last moment--the yips. When you get rid of the yips you will no longer have to suffer the disappointment of missing putts you know you can make. You'll put with confidence, lower your score and, instead of dreading it, really enjoy the short game.
How Do We Know Our System Works?TLM was shown to be so effective in getting rid of one type of performance anxiety that it was written about in the peer-reviewed journal Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy. So you can be sure that our technique doesn't just work with a few "select" clients who gave us testimonials. It works for almost everyone. The Lefkoe Method has also been featured in The New York Times and on The Today Show because the changes we've helped individuals like you create are lasting and profound.
Find And Handle The Core Issues LimitingThe people I've trained and I have used TLM to help over 13,000 people around the world get rid of performance anxiety, anger, frustration and other problems that inhibited their performance and kept them from fully enjoying life.
